Cleaning
Your Office Cubicle
For a truly thorough
cleaning, you will first need to prepare your
cubicle for vacuuming. Remove items from the
floor and any items off the desk and work
surface areas that would interfere with cleaning
the cubicle wall fabric.
Vacuum your cubicle thoroughly. Treat it like
upholstered furniture and remove all the dust
from the carpet and cubicle wall fabric. Most
vacuums have attachments you can use to clean
vertical surfaces. You should vacuum your
cubicle regularly to keep dirt from shoes and
dust and airborne particles from settling into
the carpet and wall fabric.
To clean the wall fabric after vacuuming, mix
1/4 cup high-suds laundry detergent with one
quart of warm water, using a blender or mixer if
possible to make lots of suds. Next, with a
medium-bristle brush, apply only the suds to an
area of fabric that is not visible to make sure
the fabric is color fast. Work the suds into the
fabric in small, overlapping circles. Go over
the surface with a damp towel, being careful not
to get the fabric too wet. Rinse the towel out
periodically, being sure to wring out as much
water as you can before applying it to the
fabric again. When the fabric has thoroughly
dried, vacuum it to remove any soap residue.
Wipe your desk and work surface areas with a
mild cleaner. Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions for cleaning your office equipment.
Papers, books, supplies, desk accessories,
office equipment, and any other items you keep
in your cubicle can accumulate a lot of dust.
Don’t overlook them when cleaning your carpet
and cubicle walls. Also, after vacuuming and
cleaning your cubicle, you don’t want to bring
dust-laden items back into it.
